A heron ate all of my fish from my pond, how can you prevent this??

The heron may have solved your problem for you. Fish eggs get stuck to their legs, and deposited in new feeding waters. It is possible that a new batch of fish is incubating in your pond right now. They will be perch probably. I know that perch are not the most attractive pond fish, but when the heron comes back, you won't mind as much.
By the way, harming a heron is a felony. They are protected, and no game warden can give you permission to interfere with them at all.
If a bird that is illegal to kill is causing you to lose money or food, or is being a nuisance, you should contact the game warden in your area. Either they will kill it or you will get permission to. Or you could just do it anyway.
Herons are built to eat fish..So you have only 3 options..1) Get a dog 2) Get fish that tastes bad to the bird and 3) Send your fish to live with me
A .22 shot to the head would solve things, but face it, you've created a veritable "diner" for this type of bird. I'm not absolutely sure, but you could try one of those large fake owls that many boaters use to keep seagulls away from their boats. Most birds are terrified of owls, since they represent lunch to the owl. One other thing would be to secure stainless steel screening an inch or so below the waterline. The fish could swim as they want, and the heron won't be able to grab them. I'm not sure about the owl trick, but it's worth a try.
They love fish all right, well, all you can do is come up with some kind of netting, or screen and cover the pond, unless it is too big of an area, or you can grow Lillie's in there and they will cover a lot of the open areas, where the fish have some camouflage, under the plant. If you have a cat, that will deter the bird, but the fish need a place to hide in there. good luck...
An automatic sprinkler scarecrow has worked awesome for all kinds of nuisances (and it's humane).
