How can i get rid of silver birch trees so that it looks like they've died naturally?
Question:we have loads od silver birch trees in and around our garden...all of which are covered by a blanket TPO. However, the trees are so densely packed that they are spindly and hugely tall. we have asked permission to thin them out which has been denied. i want to get rid of a few without chopping them down. Any suggestions?
Answers:
Hammer copper nails into them near the roots
I also have three in my garden and have just had one down, the tree feller said that they are not protected by law
Peel back a bit of bark on the main trunk drill a small hole into the tree then fill with copper sulphate. This will kill the tree quite slowly, but remember to put the bit of bark back in place.
a copper nails. a friend told me this about 2 months ago, he got a bag of copper nails you only need one but he said he used 3. and it died naturally. hammer them in near the base, just above the floor.
hope this helps.
When you are washing your floors or dishes try to empty the the water with detergent under the roots. Cat litter also kills everything living around it, it's that toxic (not sure why, because all other animal's litter works as manure - but when neighbours cat fouls in our garden, plants die). If you take bark off - the tree may die, but it probably will be too obvious..
drill a few holes into the ground and base of the tree and then pour some acid down them.
copper pins.
And then the council tpo enforcer will come around and check. they will not just accept that the "tree has died so we are taking it down".
You have already asked for permisson and been refused. They will be a tad suspicious if the trees suddenly die
My neighbour had a £5k fine so you have to judge if the light is worth £5K to you.
The beast way is to water it with some bleach
but you can also put salt arownd the roots
putting nails or pins will be more avious and leave clues that your trying to kill it
good luck
