How do you get rid of black fly without pesticide?
Question:I have a serious black fly situation on my nastursiums, and since I want to eat them I dont really want to use pesticide however 'safe' the label says it is. Does anyone have any tips on how to get rid of them without using it please? I guess organic gardeners would know?
many thanks

Spray with:
1. An infusion of onion, garlic or chives (other pungent herbs also work such as basil): mash plant material in cold water, leave for an hour, strain and spray on affected plants. Adding a TINY drop of detergent will help the liquid stick to the plant leaves (and to the insects)
2. Spray with soapy water (use hand soap, not detergent) as they also hate this.
I recommend number 1 if you want to eat the plants at a later date.
Spray with a solution of washing up liquid.
you eat flies?!
chopsticks! Ah Daniel son but it will take great patience!
Hi, was told some time ago but an elderly woman, 'you need to get rid of the blackfly on the roses spray them with warm soapy water' - Tried this and the roses are wonderful. I do this all the time now, and the elderly lady keeps a good eye on me too.
Best of luck
Soak any form of tobacco in water for some time: sprinkle that water on the beds and on plants, it's likely to work!
