Ripeness of fresh pears?

Question:I just moved to this house a few months ago and I love it! I have a huge yard witth tons of flora everywhere. I have an apple tree and a pear tree. I have never seen or dealt with a pear tree and I need some help. I was wondering how to tell when they're ripe or pickable. Please help :D

Answers:
Actually pears are the least attractive fruit when it is ready to eat. Take your thumb and try to put a print in it. If it is hard as a rock, it's not ready. The sweetness doesn't come til they are ready so if you pick too soon you'll have hard and yucky tasting fruit. We had a small orchard, I love pears.

If you can get to them...(this is what I've been told) if you can easily push in the stem...they're ripe and ready to eat!
When they're nice and yellow and not too hard to the touch.
My favorite fruit.
About the consistancy you would want an apple.
