Every year my almond tree is gross?

Question:It's ok early in the spring and now at the same time everty year it has a sap on its leaves gets covered in greenfly and just buzzes from the bees and flys. Theres a hazelnut tree near thats the same are they all like this. If I can't do something its getting the chop!

Answers:
You have spider mites or aphids. They usually are on the bottoms of the leaves and they suck sap. Excess sap goes right through their body and falls onto the leaves below making them sticky and sweet. This attracts the other buzzing insects that like sweet stuff. You need to spray it with an insecticide that is labeled for use on nut trees. I would suggest malathion or sevin but your local L&G Center can help you out. Kill off the spider mites (or aphids) and they should be fine.

Take very good care of your two trees. Nut producing trees can bring vacation money to your home. Almond sell around 6.00 a pound.
