Planting moonflowers in pots?
Question:I would like to plant my moonflower seeds in pots and have them grow on my patio - I live in a condo. Can anyone give me any advice on how to get started and what type of pots and soil etc.. I should use. I mean basic step by step directions would be the best. Thank you

I absolutely love moonflowers! Grow only one plant per 10-12" plastic pot. Put rocks in the bottom of your pot and fill with good potting soil (Miracle Grow). Push 3-5 seeds 1-2" down in the soil. Water every day until seeds grow, then pluck all but one of the plants when they're about 4-6" tall. Keep your plant well watered and make sure to have something for the plant to grow on-trellis, bamboo pole etc... Your moonflowers will not be as big as ones grown in the ground but oh, so beautiful!! Hope this helps. Happy gardening.
I love moonflowers! i plant them all over. And yes I have planted them in pots. They do very well, but they do need something to climb on. I just use ordinary potting soil. Put the soil in the pot. I use a pot that is about 18-24 inches acrosss the top. Put the soil in to almost the top. Take the seeds and push them into the dirt. I usually mix moonflowers and morning glories so I put 3 moonflowers in a circle in the middle and then about every 4 inches on the outside of the circle I push in morning glories. I buy a cheap "arbor" at Walmart for them to climb on. It doesn't have to be tall as yu can move the brances as they grow so they will go where you want them to. Just make sure the soil doesn't dry out while the seeds are trying to germinate.
