Too late to move my Japanese Maple Tree?
Question:I recently recieved a bloodgood red japanese maple tree for mothers day this month. After planting it, I realized I didnt put it in that great of a place. I was wondering, it is now exactly one week after I planted it, is it too late to dig it up and move it to a different location in my yard? If I will be able too, what precautions should I take? Thanks.
Answers:
No. I just move one a couple of weeks ago that had been in the ground for 7 years and it's doing just fine. One week is nothing. Do it quickly though, and make sure you water it in well, before the real heat of summer gets here, otherwise you'll need to wait until fall.
One week is not long. It will have barely grown any new roots. Should be easy to move. It will actually be less stressul for it than waiting until fall or early spring (the "normal" tree transplanting times), since you would have to cutt more rootlets at that time than by doing right now, beore it has grown in.
Go for it.
Sure now is the time to move it, be sure to dig a little bigger hole to get it out & be sure to water well after placing it in its new home. Enjoy your tree.
Sure make sure to get all the roots as possible
