What tool do you use for digging out weeds around the yard?
Question:Give me some unique answers. I lost my spade and that's what I usually use :O( I was thinking maybe a spoon would work.
Answers:
Try using a large flathead screwdriver!
I use my bare hands...
as long as u grab close enough to the ground u can get them up...
if u break it then grab a small gardening rake... and it will bring the rest up...
so much easier than using a tool...
I use a hoe--but if u don't have a hoe then a big spoon would work and put on a glove and pull, pull, pull,
Try using a hoe, it works just as well. You can break up the dirt around the weeds with the hoe and then just pull them up. Hope this helps. It works for me!
I agree with gracie. A flat head screwdriver, the bigger the better, is the best tool, next to a real weed tool, to use for pulling those pesky weeds.
What about a good, sharp 1 inch wide chisel?
Hope that helps!
My wife.
OK, I use one of those weed digger things that looks like a screwdriver with a pronged end. It works real well on wild onions and dandelions. I'll also use a rock hammer, one of those hammers with the long straight spiked tail about 6" long if the soil is hard or rocky. It works very well.
If you're only spot-pulling weeds, we got the Weed Hound from Home Depot that we love. You put the "claw" part of it down over the core of the weed, step on the foot pedal, then lift. The claws retract and grab the weed, pulling it out. If your aim is good, you generally get most of the roots, and if you get the weeds early, it can grab all of the root system. Then you pop the button on the top of the tool to release the claw and dispose of the weed.
It's sort of cathartic, wandering around the yard, going "step, pull, pop". =)
