Longer lasting flowers?

Question:What can I put in a vase with cut flowers in it to make the flowers last longer? BESIDES WATER

Answers:
A couple drops of Clorox bleach. My mom used to use an asprin.

Every few days, give the stems a fresh cut on an angle
Give them fresh water of room temperature.
never put them on an electical appliance.
Half of an aspirin and make sure you change the water daily.

Changing the water is the best thing of all.
you can put cut flowers in your fridge @ night when you go to bed and take them out when you get home. I kept roses for two months this way and eventually got tired of them and discarded.
if you have a copper penny laying around, those work well, other wise

aspirin
cut the stems every day on an angle
alkaseltzer works well also
never keep them near an electric appliance
keep them in a well ventilated room, the more oxygen they are exposed to, the longer they will breathe.
When you get the flowers cut the ends at an angle, put them in warm water never cold. also just a tad bit of bleach will help kill the bacteria in the water. Take them out and cut the bottoms every few days :) also change the water every 2days or so.
Cut flowers are dying as soon as they are cut, so your task is to slow the decay! In a smaller vase, 1/8-1/4 tsp of sugar will feed the flower on that first day but must be balanced w a drop or two of Clorox. (Poor man's florist mix!) After that, change the water every day and be sure to rinse the vase to reduce the bacteria. Washing w soap is good. Cloudy water = bacteria growth. Another florist trick is to refrigerate at night. Just make sure your refrigerator won't freeze the petals.
The aspirin is known to work. Cutting on an angle underwater is automatic. The fridge idea was good advice. Also a little sprite in the water- instead of aspirin works well. The sugar from the sprite gives the flower what it is lacking from it's host plant. As some of the others said changing the water often is important.
I wouldn't recommend clorox, city water already contains bleach- don't want to over do it.
