What is it, exactly, that gardenias like?

Question:Full sun, lots of water, like roses, or part shade, or dryer conditions, like lavendula?

Answers:
Full sun and plenty of water will work best. High humidity is certainly a plus, but don't mist the plant as it is susceptible to fungal rot on the leaves. Fertilize in spring/summer with an acid fertilizer.

The main problem with gardenias is bud drop - where the flowers will drop off just before opening. Gardenias are picky so this could be due to over or under watering, excessive dryness and/or heat, or even just moving the plant if it's potted.

The gardenia is a princess, and should be treated as such. =]
