How and when should I fertilize my post oak trees?

Question:They are 10-20 inches in diameter. I live in central Texas on about 2 acres. The trees have not been given any attention in many years before we bought the place. Some of the tree have contracted a fungus and almost died. I need to do something to snap them out of it if possible.

Answers:
If you haven't taken care of the fungus issue do so. Give them a drink, trees under stress benefit from a good deep soaking of the roots. Leave a hose trickle under the tree canopy for a few days. Then foliar feed with a water soluble fertilizer like Miracle Grow using a sprayer on the end of your garden hose. This should give quick results in about a week. You might be able to use the same sprayer for your fungicide. For longer results you can drive fertilizer spikes around the base of the tree. RScott
