Which lawnmower is better mulching or bagging?
Question:
Answers:
A mulching mower provides your lawn with a lot of nourishment. I would go with the mulcher.
Mulching, by far! Although bagged grass may make your lard "look" better, leaving the grass there is actually beneficial to your lawn, and holds water better.
MULCHING --- ABSOLUTELY !!!! For one thing the mulch feeds your lawn and protects the roots from burning from the sun! It also keeps ground moister and you use less water!
In most communities it is now illegal to try to send grass clipping to the dump -- they WILL NOT take grass clippings! It fills up the dump too fast, among other reasons. The only thing you can do with them is spread them out around your plants, but that isnt a good idea as the interior of the clippings get very hot and can even catch fire in extremely dry times.
So it is best to buy a MULCHING MOWER. My family is in the lawn business (37 years) and that's all we've used for 30 of those years! We use a ZTR type rider built by TORO.
I agree with the previous two answers but you must buy a good mulching mower with good power because they have to work harder cutting and recutting the grass. I have a Honda, it works quite well but, as with any mulching mower, you have to cut a little more frequently because if it gets too deep the mower will bog down. The good news is you don't have to bother emptying the bag and filling up the landfill.
I find the mulching mower best because you can leave the clippings on the lawn and they break down and nourish the grass. Good for the environement.
All of the above answers have good points. I prefer a bagging mower, however, so that I can use the clippings for compost, and for using them as mulch. They work great in both applications. The mower that I have converts easily from one to another.
