When chickens have laid a clutch of eggs do they stop laying or do they still lay an egg every day?

Question:

Answers:
To clarify for some of the others who have answered, a "clutch" of eggs is the number of eggs a hen tends to lay in a row. So if the clutch length is 8 that means she has laid 8 eggs in 8 days. Chickens DO lay in clutches.

If the eggs are not removed from the hen, she may go broody, which means she will try to hatch the eggs. When a hen is broody, she will seldom leave her nest, become kinda mean, and she WILL stop laying eggs. She may get a bit thinner since she is staying on the nest a lot, and her comb may shrivel up and look dry. A dry shriveled comb is a good indicator that a hen is NOT laying eggs.

Some breeds are more prone to going broody at the end of a clutch. Brown egg layers tend to be more broody than white egg layers. White egg layers (Leghorns, Minorcas, Hamburgs, etc.) tend to be much more "flighty" than brown egg layers like Rhode Island Reds, Plymouth Rocks, or New Hampshires. The flightier birds are LESS likely to become broody, but it is still possible.

Again, if the eggs are removed, it is a lot less likely that the hen will go broody & stop laying eggs.

Hi, they still lay an egg every day. Bye
When a hen has laid a clutch of eggs, she goes broody, which means that she incubates the eggs and prepares to care for the baby chicks. Removing eggs soon after they are laid prevents the hens from going broody.
First, chickens don't lay a clutch. They lay one egg approximately every 25 hours as long as they have adequate sunlight, food and calcium.
Next question?
The second answer is correct. The hen will go broody after laying a clutch of eggs. It will stop laying and stay on the nest.
