How many feet in one yard of concrete?

Question:I need to pour some concrete and I am trying to figure out how much I will need for a space 4 feet by 20 feet

Answers:
There are 27 cubic feet in one yard of concrete (3' x 3' x 3'). If the slab you are pouring is about 4" thick, then you will need 4" x 4' x 20' / 27 = .97 cy. Call it one yard.

cubic feet? 27.

to figure how much you need you need to know thickness.
the first thing you need to figure out is how thick of a pad of concrete you want...concrete will be delivered in cubic yards...not square.the calculation is done by taking the length x width x height .in your case you would be looking at 48" x 240" x (however thick a pad you need)". take your final # and divide by 36 (3' in a yard...12" in a foot).you should also consult someone about your application...you may need to pour your concrete in smaller sections to prevent cracking.but that should get you started...
as julie said 27 c.ft in a yard the formula for it is length x width x depth divided by 27 (I.E) 4' x 20' =80 x6''(1/2 ft) =40 cu. ft or 1&13/27yds approx 1 1/2 yds
