What type of grass should I put in my backyard?

Question:Currently it's mostly weeds, and assorted rocks. I want something beautiful soft and really green. Any ideas?

Answers:
it my sound like bs but put turf ( artificial grass ) my mom has turf ( artificial grass ) in her back yard it looks real and very little to do to take care of it plus we live in nyc the cold will kill real grass with the snow and what not

Of course I don't blame you.
weeds are ugly and take beauty in the grass
Now real grass would have weeds
I think artificial grass
You may have to take out the weeds
old grass. I agree that green grass is more beautiful
Zoysia grass! An absolutely beautiful, fine leaved grass. The color is green with a tint of blue, but not as dark as a true blue grass. Its amazingly soft, almost carpet like, that is highly resistant to insects and grows very thick, but also grows very slowly. No weeds, and fewer mowings. The only draw back with mine is it goes dormant before the other grasses come winter time, and is a little slower to green up in the spring, but when it does, the neighbors want to come and walk around barefoot in our backyard. If you decide this route, you'll want to mow it at about 1 1/2 inches and keep it short. Water needs are low, about once a week for 30 minutes. Enjoy!

The kind of grass depends on where you live and the amount of shade. There are some grasses that require more sun that others, and some more water than others. Call your local Cooperative Extension (usually through the university or college system) and they can tell you which is best.
