My nighbor has this really bad birdbath?
Question:my nighbor has this really bad birdbath, and every year lots of misquitoes hatch from it, what can i do
Answers:
sneak in there and put a goldfish in the birdbath
the goldfish will eat the mosquito larvae - they LOVE IT
if the neighbor sees the goldfish, maybe they will leave it there
if not, they're only 19 cents at the pet store, so buy another
get some repellant and a citronella candle.
Ask them politely to change the water often to kill mosquito eggs.
Since the birdbath is his, you can't empty it. But you could ask him to, explaining that stagnant water is prime breeding grounds for mosquitoes, and West Nile Virus.
Are you sure that's where they are coming from? Have you seen the little larva wiggling around in there?
If so --and talking to them has failed-- slip mosquito dunks into the water. They are kind of expensive $12 for 6 dunks but it may be worth it. --They are safe for wildlife.
I have socially unconscious neighbors (I swear) and I go over when thery're not home and add a little oil or sometimes bleach to the standing water in their old algae laden pots and old tires, wheelbarrows, etc. They never even notice. Clueless. I hope your neighbor is better than mine. At least yours is attempting to leave water out for the birds...
Ask first, of course, if not wait until they leave, empty it or add bleach.
Call your local health dept and telll them your neighbor is breeding mosiquitoes and they should tell him to change the water or take down the birdbath.
it sounds as if your uncomfortable with speaking with this certain neighbor. inform your SPCA the mosquitoes can transfer decease to your local bird population trust me this can get real bad sound concern are nothing will happen
