How do I kill or remove a large number of walnut tree saplings?
Question:My neighbor has a black walnut tree that every fall drops hundreds of walnuts on my property. I have 14 walnut tree saplings that are growing too close to my house and need to be removed. I am afraid that they will eventually hurt my foundation. They are very deep rooting trees and cutting them back and Round Up have not worked. I would like to avoid calling a tree person as that will be expensive and I think that this is going to be a constant battle I fight. Ideas are very welcome.

Have you tried diging them up right after they start growing. They should be easy to pull at that time. Even if they are fairly old you can dig a half foot (or more if needed) under the ground and chop the tree off with a branch trimmer at the lowest point you can. That should kill it. I have the same problem with mulberry trees. Roundup does not work on trees.
You can go to your local hardware/garden department store and get a chemical that kills trees.
With this chemical you drill a hole into your walnut tree and apply the chemical into this hole and water and let sit for a few days.. it might take awhile for the tree to die depending on its size but it will die and you can apply as much as you like without damaging your yard.
