How can I salvage/rescue my lawn? It wasn't watered for 3 weeks ?

Question:There're still large patches of green grass, but also some large patches of brown grass. I don't want to lay down new grass, if possible.

Answers:
All you really need to do is give it a good soaking. Lawns do best with between 1 inch and 2 inches per week. It's best to water deeply once or twice a week than to water shallow every day. Don't water in the heat of the day, or most of it will evaporate and not penetrate down to the roots. Early morning is best if you live in an area with high humidity, just before dark if you live somewhere arid. If you continue to water this way, you won't need fertilizers or weed killers in your lawn. Once it has grown back, don't cut it too low. Taller grass will shade its own roots, which is something it needs, and will choke out any weeds on its own since weeds like sun on their roots. If you continue to water like this, and mow once a week, you will have a lush, green lawn again in no time.

Grass is extremely hardy. You can thatch the browned area, and throw down some new grass seed. This will take care of these spots quickly.
Provided the lawn grass is not dead the standard renovation procedure is as follows

- rake up 'thatch' by pulling a rake over the lawn surface
- core the soil by sinking the fork into the soil every 30cm and lifting slightly to 'aerate soil'
- spread a lawn fertiliser at recommended rates
- give it a good soaking

Coring is slow and tedious (good for the soul) but can be done professionally.
The recommended organic lawn food is fish emulsion and seaweed.
Seasol is a fish-based fertilizer-great
plant grass seed an put straw down over top of it afterwards.good luck...
I know it hasn't rained in a while but get a rain barrel to catch water from your down spouts. Most cities charge money for storm water fee's so reclaiming that water works for you. With a cheap valve and gravity feed you can reuse that water. A cheap barrel may be around $15 to $20 dollars. Do you have even and odd watering days? If you do carefully soak those areas.
Sure, just water and fertilize. But first get a soil analysis to see just what you need for a fertilizer.
Most varieties of turf grass will go dormant when subjected to droughty conditions (not enough water). It typically takes a while to kill them off, they just go into kind of a hybernation state until they get adequate moisture to wake up again. Give it a good deep soak, and water regularly and it should green back up.
My,my,my,my. Water ,water, water and first put on some celated Iron,Water well three days in a row. You might get it to return. Good Luck Bye
