We are having our yard lanscaped but we decided to do the grass ourselves.?
Question:What would you recommend...seeding the lawn ourselves or hydroseed? We have about a 1/2 acre to cover.
Answers:
This is a matter of you get what you put in. Seeding your self will result in a lawn that is weak will require extra feeding and water and will be patchy till well established. This can take years. Hydro will give slightly better results with similar problems. Laying turf/sod will create an instant lawn that is hardy and will not require hours of extra care, if done correctly. If laying sod make sure the subgrade, soil under the sod, has been airated. This is best done with a rotary hoe and then releveled. Apply a lawn staret fertilizer to the whole area to be covered with sod. When laying sod watch which way the blades are lying and keep laying them the same dirrection. Use sand on any bad joins or gaps. Try to avoid walking on the sod whilst laying and give good water at end preferable with very light liquid fertilizer. I am a Landscape horticulturalist and lay turf every week rain hail or drought.
have it hydroseed
I'd suck it up and do sod. I seeded when I built my house and it took 3 seasons before it looked half way decent. I guess it depends how patient you are though. Good luck.
out of the two choices hydro seed it because with seed it takes more time and harder to get it to take and has to be always moist but so does hydro seed but its easier to take then just plain seed but if it were me i would go with some nice sod because you have grass that afternoon and its really easy to put in
