My riding lawnmower is smoking?
Question:Ok, I have a 1 year old PoulanPro riding lawn mower. today, it gave me the usual "check oil" light on the little hour meter thing. and so I did, it was getting low, so I added more oil until it read "full" on the dipstick. I then let it sit for about.3 minutes, I got back on, and the check oil light was still on. but I figured since I had just put oil in it would go away. It didn't. lol so I was out mowing for about 2-3 minutes, when all of a sudden, it just started billowing thick gray smoke. I shut it off as soon as it started smoking.
What should I do? can I start it? it has been sitting now for about 10 minutes.
Answers:
If you checked the oil right after you turned it off it may not have time for the oil in the engine to drain down and when you added oil you probably add to much and over filled. An over filled engine will blow out excess oil through the exhaust.
Take it to a shop, could be valves, rings or timing
You may have also inadvertently spilled oil on the engine block. The engine had time to heat up after about 3 minuted of mowing and may have started to smoke.
Ok i had a similar thing happen On my mini bike. a whitesh grey smoke came out of the exaust. I emailed and emailed and found out it was from oil getting into the piston. This could be happening to you, In my case it had to burn away but i dont know about your case. try emailing the company.
Sounds like you have a loss of oil pressure. This is not something you can fix yourself, since it requires opening up the crankcase. Take it to a qualified mechanic.
