Gravel dilema?

Question:Would it look desirable to have gravel mulching over the borders in my back garden but to leave the slopes gravel free?

Answers:
Nice difference in textures, visually appealing. However, gravel is not desireable when you have to weed the beds. It is a real pain in the patoot and if you use white rock, they tend to turn green, detracting from the initial look.
