How grow a garden in a shaded area.?
Question:
Answers:
Start with the soil as usual. Amend according to what type you have. If it is already nice, good to go. Dry shade or wet shade, that is the question. Dry shaded areas are easy because you can add the water. Wet shade needs plants that like wet feet.
For shady areas with some sun(like dappled) Hosta, Lily of the Valley, Ferns, Begonias, Impatiens, Day Lilies, Ladies Mantle, Columbine, and many others. Go to your garden center and see what they have and pick out what you like. Annuals are easy to grow(last for the season). They are also nice to add into a perennial garden for added color. Perennials grow from year to year. The first year they put in a good root system so keep well watered during dry spells. The second year they start to look pretty good. The third year they look really fantastic. Can also plant Fox Glove which is a Bi-annual.
Get yourself a good gardening book. One that also has bugs and diseases and the way to get rid of them. Organic is best. Good luck and happy gardening. Ol gardener for many years!
Try growing veg. that require a lot of shade.also if you could trim away the area, to let some sun in, you should have no problem. depending on the soil and the climate there.
You have to shop around for plants that need partial to full shade. Most of the nurseries and stores that sell plants have a tag in each plant that will tell you approx. how big the plant will get, how much shade and sun it needs, how much water, etc....truly you don't really have to buy an expensive, pricey book, those tags are very helpful. You can even use them to mix and match what will grow together and what suits you. Thats how I always have done it with no probems. Good Luck!! Happy Green Thumbing to you!! :)
