Dying Marigolds?

Question:I planted marigolds in east facing window boxes and within one day, half of them wilted, withered, died. The other half seem to be hanging on. Too much sun, too much water, too little water? How can keep the other ones alive. Maybe I damaged the roots when I repotted?

Answers:
I'm wondering if you may have broken the main stem when you planted them. They will need water daily and sun. You probably should switch the columbine and the marigolds...

I planted marigolds on mother's day...today I tossed them all in the trash as they dried up/wilted. I watered them as per that little "stick" thing that comes with them and did what it said and got nothing out of them...also lost some other plants after following those directions
Dying within one day? It sounds like you damaged them during planting. Either that or the potting soil is much too dry or too loose to keep moisture in contact with the roots.
I agree since it happened in such a short time period, the roots were probably damaged when they were re-potted. I put some in my flower garden for the 1st time ever this spring. I planted them about 6-8 weeks ago; they are on the west side of my house. Other than fertilizing once, I only water them once a week (if it doesn't rain). I'm very impressed, they have doubled in size and look gorgeous, I'll definitely plant more again next year. Mine get a lot of sun and little water, but they are in the ground so they require much less water than if they were potted.
