How often should I water potted annual plants in Ohio?

I usually water them daily...usually in the morning. I then check them if the afternoon when i get home from work and if looks like they are really dry I give them another drink...that is usually if it has been a hot day.

When the potted soil isn't moist any more, buy a moisture meter, that pokes into the soil a couple of inches down to get a true reading.
Once a day if the pots are large .for small pots once in the early am and again right before dusk should do it.
