Help with my houseplants?

Question:I have a few houseplants of my own and am also babysitting some of my neighbors while she is back home for the summer. I didn't have a pest problem until I brought her into my house. All of a sudden I am consumed with gnats! Is it the soil? Will soapy water work like it does for many other plant pests? I am beyond annoyed and am about to take them out into the hallway of our building. I can't handle my cat peeing in the floor AND gnats in my house. Please help me out!

Answers:
it's the soil. you can purchase plant spray that will kill those pesty little gnats. as for your cat....where's your litter box?

what you do is cover the bottom with foil. Over the soil but leave an open space for air. Also take the plants outside and dust them with sevin dust and let them sit out until the bug are gone. This works wonders.
