Cedar Tree Care?
Question:The end part of my limbs on my cedar trees are turning brown..
I believe I have a bagworms... If so, how do I treat this problem??
Answers:
Are you seeing the bags on the limbs containing the caterpillar? Below are some links on bagworm, including description and treatment options.
If you live in the west, cedar flagging is another reason that parts of your cedar may be turning brown. Cedar flagging is the browning of older leaves and twigs, a common occurrence on western red-cedar and related trees, such as arborvitae. It is a normal process that doesn't effect tree health. There are links to cedar flagging information below also.
If you take a sample of your problem to your local agricultural extension or Master Gardener group, they may help you identify the exact cause (bagworms, blight, flagging, etc) and provide advice on how to deal with it.
Good luck!
trust me... you know you have Thyridopteryx ephemeriformis if they are truely there... bagworms look like their name... you can pull them off by hand...and a caterpillar will poke its head out to say hello. if this is the case pull them off... stick em in a bag... trash it... and vi-ola they are gone ...
now...if the tips are browning out... "a" back off the fertilizer... or "b" water a little more often to help it out if it hasn't rained.
