Lawn care help...?
Question:my grass grows faster then my whole neighborhood. when i mow it on a sat. by weds. i have some tall skinny sprouts of grass sticking out all over and looks bad. the whole lawn is short but the random weed is 6 inches tall after 3 or 4 days . i need help. is there something i can get to treat this.

If it is a weed that is growing through your grass you can get a lawn treatment called..weed and feed...this is a granular product that you just spread on your lawn it does not affect the grass but it will kill the weeds growing through,You will be able to get this from any garden centre or nursery just follow the instructions on the packet and you will have no problems.Because there is a grass feed in the product will mean your grass will be greener and lusher because it feeds the grass the necassary nutrients it needs,i use this myself on my own lawn whenever i get a spell of weeds popping through and i have a really nice lawn,just make sure you follow the instructions on the packet.Hope this helps and good luck with the problem. :-)
not knowing what variety of grass you have makes it hard to answer this question. it sounds like a trait of the variety. as far as the weeds go apply a herbicide ( broad weed controller) in the fall depending where you live dates may vary.
this is tough without knowing more details..
In the Midwest, we have a sedge grass that grows very quickly and it sounds as though this could be your problem, too. It's called "yellow nutsedge" and you may want to google it to see if that's it. It grows much faster than does fescue and it looks like spikey grass.
If so, I'd probably recommend contacting a lawn service (like chemlawn or scott's) to apply chemicals to treat it.
Nutsedge has been bad this year because of all the rain in some areas.

It may be a kind of grass that is more like a weed. You can apply weed controls to your lawn, but it may be worth your time to spend an hour or so a day just pulling out the individual weeds that are growing taller. Another suggestion is to let your lawn grow taller (set your mower to the highest setting). This will allow your grass to choke the weeds out.
