Orchids actually grow in their native habitat in air so require little water. However, our indoor plants need water about every two weeks. Thoroughly water the plant and allow all the water to drain out. Wait 20 minutes, then water again and allow water to drain. The plant growing medium will have absorbed all the water necessary. Never leave plant in standing water. The second watering is the trick-just like it is easier to pick up a spill with a damp sponge than a dry one.
About once a week or whenever it starts to get completely dry, then soak the base thoroughly. Dunking the base in a bowl of water about once a week then letting it drain works well for most orchids. You don't want to get water on the leaves. Dunking the base in water is the easiest method and I think it makes it much easier to take care of than most indoor plants.
I have had many orchids and they even bloomed for me again, what a treat. You have to remember that orchids usually grow on trees in the jungle where there is plenty of moisture in the air and they do not need soil necessarily as they cling to the bark of trees. I put my pots on a bed of rocks in a saucer deep enough to hold about an inch or two of water so as the water evaporates it goes up onto the plant.The plant itself never touched the water.I also sprayed it with a fine mist every few days to make up for the moisture it should have had in the jungle. They were very happy and performed real well for me. Good luck with them.

I water mine about every 4 days. Hold the put under the faucet and run some tepid/room temperature water through it for a few minutes.
