Slugs on hosta. 10% vinegar solution?? or ring of aluminum foil?

Question:If I place a ring of aluminum foil around my hosta to detract slugs from eating them, should the foil be around the base of the plant or around the whole area ie: where the leaves touch to the ground. My hosta are 2 feet in diameter. If I use vinegar solution do I spray the leaves or the ground?

Answers:
leave a pie plate filled with beer at the base of each hosta
and wait until about midnight. Go out side and collect the
pie plates...they will be loaded with slugs. They love beer. I am not joking, this is serious. Go out with a large garbage bag and dump the pie plates filled with beer and slugs into the garbage bag and tie it tight. Do, it often and you will get rid of the slugs, not use pesticides and have drunk slugs going to slug heave. I know this sounds like a joke but it isn't, I have done it. It works. Cheers!

If you use foil, be sure to enclosed the whole area. The slugs will just climb up the leave if you only circle the base of the plants.

I've never used a 10 vinegar solution, but it directly kill slugs and their eggs. Turn your mulch and spray the ground where the slugs hide and lay their eggs.

Hostas are beautiful. Why detract with a ring of aluminum foil? That's like covering an Ethan Allen couch with a vinyl cover so the upholstery doesn't get stained
Slugs love beer. You could put saucers of beer within a couple of feet of the hostas, and they will wiggle their way to the bar, get drunk and drown. Seriously.

You can also sprinkle the plants with salt. I have many hostas, and both methods work for me.
my friends mom gets a beer can with just a little beer in it and puts it in the ground. in about a week the slugs and snails all went to the beer can and now there are no more.
I've used a shallow pan filled with beer before. this seems to work the best for me. it kept the slugs away from my plants.
