Is there a recipe of household products that would repel animals from my vegetable garden (namely Cats)?

Question:anythingthat won't contaminate the food

Answers:
Cats do not like the smell of fresh lemon. Slice up some lemons and put them in the garden. The odor from the lemon peel is offensive to them.

Glad you asked this one. I have had a problem lately too - seeds that were planted have been dug up by everyone elses' darn cats. A friend suggested plastic bottles, half filled with water, just laid on the ground in the area where they are digging. Have done this for 3 days and so far so good......Have also had childrens plastic windmills suggested so might try those too.
If you google this you will come up with some pretty good stuff. A lot of them require you to use your own urine along with dishsoap, etc.
try sprinkling freshly ground black pepper gnerously around each plant - this will also deter rabbits and other ground dwelling animals from invading your garden
if the cats don't come around with people outside then use human hair.
i'm a hairstylist/cosmetology teacher and we have women (and men) come in for bags of hair for this purpose. they say it works.
Cyan Pepper around the area even keeps the Grizzlies out of my camps in Montana. We also had problems with Mountain Lions ad Rocky Marmot's until we started using the pepper
Pepper. The strongest pepper you can find, Lay around bourder once every two to three day for a week. No cats, no rabbits no dogs. It works
I have heard that cloves would repel them.
Keeping the soil rather wet is also said to help (but of course not the best for all plants)
Some gardeners in Germany and Austria also grow a plant which said to repel cats, dogs, rabbits
I have no idea if it also available in your place latin name is:
Plectranthus-Caninus-Hybride it is also sold under the name
Coleus caninus
It is also said that wetting them with the garden hose will drive them off but that means you will have to invest some time.
I use cayanne pepper and chili powder (the cheap stuff from the Dollar store). I sprinkle it in the garden. I also use pine cones in my potted plants. Cats don't like the uncomfortable feeling when doing their "business". In the past, I have also used plastic forks stuck into the ground (prongs upward) to stop them.
Cayanne pepper works for awhile but you have to put it out every time it rains.
Putting little hairballs will work for strange animals but your own pets will ignore it (if you use your own hair)
Spinning things deter cats for a little while.(wind mills and such)
Never tried the lemon thing but it sounds good.
I spray vinegar around my flower bed and it works pretty good
for me. Helps with deer a little to I think.
I know there are sprays that you can mix to repel cats but you can also help deter them by planting Rue around the area they tend to be using as a litter box. It is a herb with small blue leaves and gets yellow flowers. It can get tall if you just let it go but is also easily prunable to keep it smaller. You can find it at most garden centers in the herb section.
Paint ball gun does the trick, you won't kill them but will scare the crap out of them.
