Why are trees yellow?

Question:

Answers:
If your trees are turning yellow, it could be a few things.

Sometimes it is caused by overwatering - if that is the case, then back off on the water and see if that doesn't help.

Sometimes it can be a sign of a nitrogen deficiency - try a fertilizer with a high first number like (12 -6- 6) or if available in your area, sprinkle some ammonium nitrate around the drip line and water in. Ironite is another way to green things back up.

Sometimes it can be heat stress and if you live in an area with high heat, there really isn't anything you can do besides water regularly and treat with ironite.

Good Luck!

are they? tress here are pink
because you still have your yellow contact lenses on
I didn't know they were yellow! but I know what you mean, it is the changing season from Summer to Autumn, I think.
It is something to do with the Photosynthesis process i think. Not enough sunlight causes pale yellow leaves.
If you are not talking about trees in the fall, Then I would say they are overwatered, and they will soon die.
Scared?
Could be the tree disease call Yellows, it turns leaves yellow.
They have problems with their chlorophyll synthesis.
I'd go with a defiency, probably nitrogen. unless they is toxic salt damage otherwise flushing would be needed depending on the size of the tree
Look a little closer at the leaves of your yellow trees. Are the leaves yellow, but the veins are green? This is a condition known as chlorosis. It is a deficiency of either iron and/or magnesium. Trees like birches and Pin Oaks often will become cholortic. In sever cases this condition leads to tree decline and ultimately death. It is generally caused when a tree that prefers acid soil is planted in an alkaline soil. The high alkalinity ties up nutrients, especially iron and magnesium. Also, at this time of year, trees which require high moisture (like birches) can not take up enough iron or magnesium because they are not getting enough moisture. So how do you fix chlorosis? First, try not to plant an acid loving tree in an alkaline soil. Two, consider the site requirements of a tree before you plant and select a tree that fits the site. I can't tell you how many times I see a River Birch planted in a southern elevation in front of a brick home or on a berm. Supplement water a chlorotic tree through the heat of summer. You can inject iron and magnesium into the root zone or use foliar sprays if performed on a routine basis.

If the leaves are all yellow, then you may be overwatering or undwerwatering. You can not tell the difference from the color of the leaves. Monitor your soil to determine which watering practice is at fault.

Trees seldom are in need of nitrogen fertilizers nor have I even seen a tree turn yellow because of soil infertility. Your best bet to determine if nitrogen deficiency is a problem is to monitor the amount of new growth on a tree. If you are getting 6" or more of new growth, then soil fertility is not a problem.
