Sew grass seed in Tennessee? what month to start?

Question:additives for good growth. when to water lawn? whats the best economy seed to use ?

Answers:
I live in Tennessee and I will tell you that if you're in West Tennessee, Bermuda grass is your grass of choice. It thrives in hot, sunny areas and can be seeded anytime it's hot, the earlier in the Summer, the better. Just be sure to water, water, water. Now, if you live in the cooler climate of Middle TN or East TN (except the Southern areas of Middle and East where it's very hot like West TN) then you would want to plant a Fescue blend. This kind of grass should be planted in the Fall. It's a cool weather grass that will come up and grow quite nicely in the Fall and stay green throughout the Winter when it is mild but it will not stay green all winter. It will come back early, though, usually in March or so. Fescue requires a lot of water and does not have runners like Bermuda grass does so you will have to "over seed" every Fall with your Fescue seed to keep your lawn healthy and beautiful. What I would do if I were you is to call your local Agricultural Extension Agency and ask their advice on what kind of grass you should plant in your area...They will know and they can advise you on everything you need to know about planting it etc. Also, they can do a soil test to see what kind of soil you have to see if you need to put any kind of treatment on your lawn if it's lacking something it needs to be healthy. Good luck!

today here in may
Kentucky Bluegrass, its too late wait till next year, do it around March 21
do not use cheap seed.It has many weed seeds in it and is used as a filler.Purchase the best seed you can afford, it will pay off in the long run.Sow the seed in the fall, this is the best time.Good Luck.Keep it watered. No need to feed the first year.It is best to water in the morning hours.
i would think ideally you would want to do it in April, but march and may are good months too. You can do it now, here in June but your results may not be as good because it will be harder for your seed to really take hold before summer hits, and then get de-stressed in the fall, then... !pow!... winter hits just as th young grass was feeling better about its inception in this world.
So it really depends on where you are seeding, how much you care about the results, and if you are willing to re-seed next spring to repair any substandard results.
One last thing, are you trying to seed an area that is in the shade, or is it in the sun? If in the shade you will notice that the grass will germinate and grow at a very slow rate, making your job even hard. In this case you might consider buying some cut sod grown on a farm for sale to deal with this difficult area.
