Whats the best economical weed and feed? liquid or dry?
Question:when to apply weed and feed? How many applications should it take to knock out weeds? how far apart should I space weed n feed and sewing new grass seed? Thanks
Answers:
i have found that ortho's weed be gone sprayer works well. it comes in a concentrate that you hook to the hose directly. one application kills very well. you'll notice within 48 hrs. i have tried scott's weed and feed in a drop spreader and got ok results. left an obvious pattern on the lawn (stripes) and wasnt happy with the weed killing. (yes, i made sure the grass was wet when applying)
as for puttting new seed after words, both suggest waiting a month before placing seed. most weed killers will state how soon new seed can be placed.
Don't use a weed and feed product at all - ever. Weed and feed products should not be sold because: 1) they have the potential to harm trees and 2) they simply can't do both - kill weeds and fertilize your lawn at the same time.
Instead of using a weed and feed product, do the following:
1) in early spring use a handtool to pull up the weeds. Even if you have a lot of weeds be aware that if you use a weed killer extensively on the lawn, any trees that are close to the area may be harmed. The tree roots will take up the weed killer. If you must use a chemical weed killer, use it sparingly for hard-to-remove weeds.
2) wait until your lawn grass has been mowed a couple of times before you fertilize your grass in the spring. The reason for waiting is because, it has to be at the correct growing time for accepting the fertilizer for the fertilizer to work optimally. So, even if you don't have any trees in the area in which your lawn is located, you still ought to wait until your lawn has shown that it's in the growth mode (by having to be mown twice) before you apply spring fertilizer.
