How do I trim a tree in my neighbor's yard that is hanging way over into my yard?
Question:They have refused to let me trim it because the woman loves the tree as it hangs to provide shade in her yard. We do not presently talk on a friendly basis and they have put up all kinda of no trespassing signs on their gates to their yard.

Time to buy a chainsaw!!
I don't see why you can't cut down any limbs that hang over your property. Then again, ignorance of the law is not an excuse to violate it. It's possible you may not have the legal right to harm the tree in any way... then again you might have the right to go Paul Bunyan on it.
Call your local city office and see what your options are, you might be surprised.
u can only trim what hangs on your property.
If I were you I'd trim the parts that are hanging over in my yard and say "heck with her'!
you need a ladder or someting and/or a long pruning pole. Whatever hangs into your yard is fair game.
Check the law in your state. In Wisconsin, you can cut off what ever hangs on your property without the homeowners permission. However, I would consider finding out the law and then giving your neighbor a note that quotes the appropriate law. I would tell them that they have so many days to resolve the issue themselves or you will take care of it yourself.
Hope this helps.
If it is hanging over your yard you can cut whatever part of it off.
Check the local laws, but that is the way it is in most states.
