How to get rid of a tree?
Question:I have a stuborn tree in my front yard that I can't get rid of. My husband and I dug it up and used a chainsaw to cut the roots and my husband put spray paint on the roots and said that would keep it from growing. NOW IT'S COMING BACK! It's some kind of burgandy tree. It grows pretty fast. It's come up 3 inches in a a little over a week!! How do I kill this thing? I planted my kids flowers where we pulled up the tree from so I don't want to just go digging it back up.

In the 30+ years of controlling unwanted vegetation, the active ingredient called "Triclopyr" has shown to be the best of eliminating unwanted trees, shrubs and vines. It is sold as "Brush-B-Gone" or "Bayer Advanced Brush Killer"and can be easily found at most hardware/garden shops.
If you're getting re-growth, simply mix this product with water and thoroughly spray the foilage. Hint: Try adding a tablespoon of dishsoap AFTER you've mixed this product with water. The dishsoap will help make the spray mixture adhere to the foilage and allow more product to be absorbed into the tree.
The alternative is to make a 25% mixture (1 part "Triclopyr" with 3 parts water) and drill holes into the green wood and then pour this mixture into the holes immeditately.
Triclopyr is very good at controlling broad-leaved weeds on lawns. great at killing poison oak/poison ivy too.

I would contact a specialist in a garden center (bring a shoot from the tree) and see if they can tell you what kind of tree it is, then find out which poison will work for it. There may be something it does not like that would not hurt your other flowers.
The tree stump needs to be removed or burned out.
What you can do is cut the suckers, (new shoots) off close to the ground. Immediately after cutting them apply Round-up concentrate, (44 percent glyphosate) directly to the shoot. Do this by pouring the glyphosate on a sponge or cloth and daubing it onto the freshly cut shoot. Glysphosate will only control what it touches, so if you don't get it on the flowers it will not harm them. Also it cant be picked up by other plants from the soil. It may take several treatments to get it completely.
