How to bring roses out of dormancy (or tell if they're dead!).?
Question:Bought some rose bushes at Wal-Mart that I planted in the ground. Some are growing others are still dormant, and do not have any new leaves/shoots.
The ones that are growing had leaves on them when I bought them.
Will they all grow this season?
Answers:
Urinate on them. Seriously. The nitrogen compounds found in urine will feed the plants, helping them to grow a bit larger than they normally would and saving you money on fertilizer.
Hint: Also works on cats and paid escorts
I once cut a well-established rosebush down to about 6" above the ground - nothing but little wood stumps, and it grew back big, healthy and beautiful. I would maybe just prune it a little so the roots don't have as much foliage to support.
You can tell if the ones without leaves are still alive by using your fingernail to scrape a little "bark" off of the base of the plant. If the color is green underneath the plant is still alive.
