Can you plant grass over a tree stump?
Question:We had a tree cut down and the stump ground, howerver, he didn't quite grind it "level". There is a small mound; I've covered it with dirt. Should I just plant grass over it? How much dirt should I put over it and will it be hard to mow?
Answers:
The size of the "mound" will determine if cutting the grass is a problem. Be prepared for numerous toadstools to grow also. The deteriorating wood from the stump seems to feed them.
Mulch it with wood mulch, peat moss and compost higher above the stump. It will grow grass. Use a weedwacker instead of a mower.. Our mowever doesn't have metal blades, instead it is like a weedwacker and does a much better job.
Sure you can plant grass over it - grass roots aren't that deep. It's not that hard to mow either - lots of people have landscaping mounds in their yard!
It's up to you if you want to plant grass on it, but, make sure the stump is under the ground very far, because when you run a lawn mower over it, you might hit it.
I dont know try it and find out!
i don't think so,but i don't know much about gardening! =)
You should be able to. Plant some that will spread and cover the stump. A lot of soil will make a hump that will be hard to mow over, It dent take much for some grasses to spread and their roots go. Or make you a flower bed place and plant something nice, or put a trellis there and plant vines.
You would only need a small amount of soil over the stump to plant anything.
