Is there anything we can do about neighborhood dogs and their turds?

Question:We have no dogs, our yard is visited in the early morning by neighborhood dogs that pee on our plants and deposit long shiney turds in our lawn.

This morning an added bonus: huge hordes of black flies.

Anything normal and rational we can do? We have to rely on our own recourses; Aninal Control is not interested.

I work nights, am not there to watch for them and then run after them with squirt guns full of ammonia; and my wife is not the type to do that sort of thing.

Would you be shocked to find out that most of the dogs doing this are on leashes? Your wife should either talk to the dog owners, or report to you the dogs doing it so you can talk to the owners. Then, next time their dog is doing it, make sure they know you see it. Perhaps they will start cleaning it up. If not, do what I do. I had a neighbor that did this and would ignore, not pick it up, etc. So, I picked it up for them. Waited until they had a bunch of friends over for dinner. Then I went to their house with a shovel full of - well, you know - rang the doorbell and said "I think you forgot this", turning the shovel up and leaving it on their welcome mat. Needless to say, problem solved.

Take a crap on your neighbor's lawn who let's there dog crap on yours...
put a cute little discrete sign out. and to encourage better neighbors put ot a few doggie poopoo bags and treats.
Put up signs "No dog pooping" or "Use a pooper scooper, please". If you know which dogs are doing this, then make a friendly visit to their owner's house and kindly ask to keep their dogs and their waste off your lawn. I use to scoop up the turds and chuck them back on my neighbor's lawn (and pathways) since they did not comply with my three polite requests.
there is a spray out there that wrksi treatmy friend used it it wrks but can't remember name hope this has been use full
I have a neighbor just like yours. Iam on a coldasac so they are on my backyard there dogs bark pee and any thing they can any where they shouldnt. There are several products that you can spray around your yard that dogs don't like. I've used the inexpensive Repell brand to keep my neighbor's dogs off my lawn and their cats out of my container plants. I applied it a couple times a week at first creating a "liquid fence" around my yard and watched to see how it affected the animals. It is non-toxic, doesn't hurt the dog or the lawn or plants and they just won't cross it. No confrontation with my neighbors, the animals just ignore my yard and walk on by. I tried cayenne pepper before that but had to apply it every time the sprinklers hit it. This lasts through being blasted a few times. After using it for a few weeks, the neighborhood animals were "trained" to avoid my lawn and plants. PetCo and the discounters sell many of these types of products, but this little $1.99 can did the trick.

PS I have two adorable Eskies who are not allowed on the front lawn and I use this product to keep them out of my gardens and other areas in the backyard where I don't want them to venture. It can be used inside too, keeps animals off of funiture, out of rooms, etc.
Hmmmm..Aminal Control isn't interested?? I think I'd get them interested by reminding them that in most locales, there are "leash laws" for dogs. I'd check to see if you have them where you live. The ASPCA could be a good source to contact and inquire if there are leash laws. Some people have absolutely no business owning pets..allowing the animal to "run free" is fine if living in the country on a farm etc. however in an urban setting, animals soon become nuisances. I don't advocate violence, however many of these "nuisance" type animals are shot, poisoned, etc. simply becuase someone has had enough of having to pick up after an animal that isn't their's. I've heard of diffent chemicals that are supposed to repel an animal, and I've heard that some had success with them, some didn't. The only "absolute" way to stop this is a fence. I guess what really "galls" most people who attempt to explain to the offending animal's owner what is going on is that most owners get very "defensive" in their reaction, demanding to know how you know that it's "their" dogs waste in your yard, etc. I would attempt to force the issue with Animal Control, or contact the SPCA and let them know that there are dogs running free.say that you are concerned about your safety rather than complaining about the mess in your yard - this may get a quicker response.
There is a motion sensor that you can buy for a sprinkler, if it senses movement it will spray the animal (or human) that is on your property. Works really very well to keep the deer out of the garden...
You can try the sign but that only works if the reader cares about someone besides themselves.
