Beetles of Minnesota. The Japanese beetle.

Japanese beetle, probably.
You can call the cooperative extension service - (connected with the university so start looking there) You will get directed to someone in the entomology department who will know the answer. I found a big worm that swam and breathed through it's butt - turned out to be a may fly larvae.
Could be a Japanese beetle. We have them here in Oklahoma. Looked on line and you have them in Minnesota too.
Chances are it is a Cicada- this is the year the 17 Year Locust, or Cicada, is emerging. Does it have red eyes? If so, no doubt, it is a Cicada! They don't bite, they are just around to mate. No others? Poor guy. You won't see another one for 17 years so you might want to take a picture of the one you have!
