I gotta tell ya to stay away from those little critters. If I am right they will cause you a lot of discomfort. In South Carolina, we call 'em "Chiggers". Texans call them "red bugs" but either way, they are a pain in the butt. These are not deadly insects as much as they are a troublesome. Chiggers are parasites that burrow under the skin just below the surface. You'll notice them when ithe area starts to itch from the inflammation. Don't ...let me repeat DO NOT SCRATCH . These dudes can get much worse. Instead, follow my grandmothers remedy and she was never wrong about things like this. Using fingernail polish (clear is the best so you don't look like a psychedelic leopard), dab a small amount right on the spot and leave it there. Check yourself and the kids thoroughly because there may be multiple places on your skin. The best ...or should I say, the worst places to find them are around the ankles and lower legs. But also check the insides of the arms, the underarms and ...well, the private areas. I'm scratchin' as I write this.
Anyway, the finger nail polish will take care of the problem within a couple of days and you can use lotion for any skin irritation. By the way, don't remove the polish before you get in the shower but by all means, reapply it after wards. Most importantly, have an exterminator out for inspection and removal. Good luck and no scratchin'.
I'm pretty sure these are what I've heard called shield bugs. They're harmless. I had them too, they came out of nowhere one year (I live in North Carolina) and I was convinced they would do me no good, but all they did was annoy me. The adults are black with a red stripe.
They are not parasitic or anything...they are harmless, i live in Indiana and we always have them on roads, tennis courts, pool decks they are nothing dont worry about them very harmless.
