Best way to store potatoes?

Question:i have a large crop of potatoes and would like to store them without them sprouting and rotting, whats the best

Answers:
they used to stack them in the dark with layers of straw keeping them apart they lasted a lot longer than just packed together

sorry i cant help
Get some panty hose and use the part that covers the legs only (not the panty part). Put a potato in the foot section of the hose, then tie a knot in the hose directly above the potato. Put in another potato, tie another knot and keep going. Hang them in a cool dark place. We have done this for years with potatoes and onions (vadalias) and they last a LONG time.
i think that you should put them in a cold and dark place.
If you store them in the dark they sprout.. The best place would be in the open air, not in the fridge.. A veggie rack would be ideal.
in a bright, dry place.
You have to keep them very dry and in a dark place or in brown paper bags.
I leave mine in the pantry which is dark and cool, if you leave them out on the counter and in the light then they will sprout.
makeloans2 is spot on! The bit about tying them up in nylons works amazingly well!
In a cool dark place, make sure you buy spuds with plenty of eyes in so they see you through the week
Keeping them in your basement where they can stay dry . People did that years ago . If you keep them in the bag they may rot closed up.
In cold dark place. Put a few apples in amongst them - keeps them fresh longer - how? - I've no idea!
shotgun!!
