How can I get an avacado tree to sprout leaves? I think its stuck!!?
Question:I recieved two young (2 foot) avocado trees in the mail from a friend. The shipping really took a toll on them. They lost their leaves within a few days and after about a month one of them regrew its leaves and looks fine. The other one still looks like a stick. It is green, alive, and has healthy roots, but no leaves! Anything I can do to get it to grow some leaves? I tried fertilizing it. No effect. Somebody said something to me about cutting the branch and a leaf should grow (or something like that). Anyone know anything about that?
Help? Im afraid if this doesnt do anything soon its not going to make it. Its been about 2 months with no leaves. I dont know how its still alive.
Answers:
Look on the trunk for the scars where the leaves fell off. Cut it back to the lowest leaf scar. It should put out a new branch at that point, and that branch will leaf out naturally. It may take a long time, though.
Trim it back to the previous leaf sprouts and be patient with it. Some times it take them a while to recover from shock.
If you are in a dry area, water it regularly while it is in this transition.
Good luck
