What is causing little dime-sized holes in my yard? The holes appear to go fairly deep.?

Question:They never appear to have been "dug", with no apparent clumps of dirt around the edges. They happen in sun and in shade.

Answers:
Do they resemble tunnels, going straight down? I have many of them and have seen bumble bees coming and going from them. I attempted to do research on this years ago, but to no avail. My assumption is the bumble bees are making these holes.

Snakes or possibly moles
i would think maybe snakes.
