How much "top soil" do I need to lay sod on top of.?

Question:I put about 3 inches on top of really hard dirt and rock.is this enough to lay sod or do I need to put more down?

Answers:
YES, 2 TO 3 INCHES IS PLENTY

the more good soil you have, the better your sod will do in the long run. 3" would be the minimum, if you ask me.
If you put it on really hard soil then you might need a bit more. It would work better if you tilled the area you are sodding.
None.
