Activated carbon, applied according to label directions, can inactivate some soil applied herbicides.
My parents just like sodded the acre lot we have...well probably a third because our house is on the other 2 thirds of the acre.
no.. seed now and water a lot.. you might get grass to grow. It will be a challenge, to be sure. Try a quick germinating or patch type seed, then re-seed the area in the fall.
If you don't, the weeds WILL be back and with no competition from grass, will take over.
good luck... and remember that you will have to do a lot of watering.. a lot!
Just water a little bit every day and try to flush the chemicals for a couple of weeks. Scalp the lawn and over seed if you have Bermuda and fertilize evry week for the rest of the summer. If you have St. Augustine, you messed up. Water the remains well and fertilize to stimulate new growth. I would consider getting some St. Augustine grass plugs as well.
The grass that you killed is dead- it won't come back. Weeds will definitely replace the dead grass if you don't re seed. How to get grass back depends on what chemical you used. If it is just a weed killer, you can re seed and get grass to grow back. Try to remove as much of the dead sod as you can and rough up the soil before spreading seed. cover it slightly or roll it to ensure good germination.
If the chemical you used contains a weed preventer, you'll have to till up the soil a little more before you seed to break the barrier of the weed preventer. After you seed, don't ever let the seed or soil dry out - water in the morning and then when necessary during the day. Use a seed mix that contains perennial rye, if possible - it germinates fast and will provide a good environment to help the other grass varieties germinate. the best time of year to grow grass is in the fall - there are a lot less weeds that germinate in the fall as compared to the spring.
