Need recommendations of tall plants for privacy...?

Question:I have an area about 10' long and 2' wide perhaps 3' deep that runs just along an adjoining fence. I desperately want to plant a barrier type bush or plant for privacy from the neighbor. I really love bamboo but I fear it spreading to the neighbors side of the fence. What are some other tall growing plants/trees that might work? I do not want an Ivy or Jasmine and I live in an area that gets extreme heat (up to 115F) and cold (down to 20F). Thank you for your help!!

Red tips...they are great for privacy. They grow to around 12 ft or so.

Sandy :O)

Lilac makes a great hedge plant, grows fast, looks good, is very hardy, and nice blooms and fragrance in the spring. Can cut the blooms for indoor use too.
What I have seen used as a fence for privacy are Lea-Lun Pine trees. I know the spelling is incorrect, but I spelled it just as it sounds. They are beautiful. They grow anywhere from 15 to 25 feet tall and are perfectly shaped.

If there is a Home Depot or Lowes near you, you can always talk with them. They have Certified Nursery workers.
Bamboo will indeed invade everyone!!

My yard has what's called a Rose of Sharron (hearty hibiscuss). It grows tall and bushes out slightly and in the summer it produces hibiscus like flowers! I just moved in (and live in Eastern Oklahoma) so I don't know what the winter will do to it but it is EVERYWHERE around here so it must be easy to take care of.
Italian or Arizona cypress will do the trick.

Very tall, very narrow trees you can plant close together that will make wonderful privacy screens without worry of spreading or even branching over to the neighbor's yard.

They accept a wide variety of soil conditions and temperatures and are drought and heat tolerant as well (summer dry- winter wet).
It sounds to me that your conditions are right that you can plant a few of the tropical clumpers. Most of the Bambusa multiplex varieties work great as hedge plantings and are NON-INVASIVE! They slowly grow outward in a circular pattern and are easily maintained through pruning, just like you would have to do with any other shrub.

Check out my "Silverstripe" and the growth it showed in just 2 years:
