Alternative to outdoor patio, indoor/outdoor carpet?
Question:At the bottom of our deck steps is a giant bald spot where our dogs have torn up. Do you think indoor/outdoor carpet would be good there? How do I attach it to the dirt ground?
Answers:
Sorry I do not know enough about the carpet...but I would suggest a semi circle/half-cirle of pavers. The dogs could not rip that up! It would be aesthetically pleasing as well. Or, perhaps just square stepping stones (they have them at Lowe's in 12" and 24" sizes). You would butt them right up against each other (no dirt in between).
I would suggest that you put down some pavers in the dirt area, they're inexpensive and can be purchased at Home Depot or Lowe's. My dogs did the same thing and it's worked out great, no more dirt pits:) We bought them in 12"x12" and they've been there for a couple of years, now. You could always put indoor/outdoor carpet on top of the pavers, if you want.
You could put stepping stones fitted together but indoor outdoor carpet wouldn't be very attractive. You really can't attach it to dirt.
Indoor/outdoor carpet would be high maintenace and not last very long. But if you are adventurous, think about making a place at the bottom ,like a 4ftx8ft area, bordered with scalloped landscapng stone about 8 inches high. Lay down some weed barrier fabric then fill the area with what is called "pea gravel". Very small sized stones. If you ever want to put plants there, just move the stones away till you get to the fabric, cut an X in the fabric, plant your plant then replace the gravel. The fabric lets moisture in but keeps weeds down. Plus if you have kids that ever get muddy feet, its a great place to spray them of before they track mud every where.
