Will I get more ginger from it?

Question:I have a piece of old ginger and buds are growing. If I bury it in soil, will I get more ginger out of it?

Answers:
Absolutely, if the ginger is not very old and shriveled. Plant your ginger (with the buds exposed) in rich soil with good drainage. Use a big pot (at least 12 inches across, 12 inches deep) if you want to harvest ginger later. Spring and summer are great for growing ginger. Make sure the plant is not exposed to temps lower than 50F, or higher then 90. Protect from high winds. Water well during growing season, but make sure soil is not water-logged.

The buds will sprout into beautiful plants 3-4 ft high. Grow for 9-10 months and harvest new ginger in fall or winter. The old ginger you planted will shrivel, but you'll find new tubers all around it. Each new tuber will grow into a new plant if you separate and repot them.
