Leaves on sunflower plant?

Question:Our sunflower plant has growen tall but the leaves are wilted. we waaater our garden every other day. The plants are by two wild tomatoe plant and by cucumber plants we also have green been bushes in that garden. What is making the leaves wither/well it still produce sunflower seeds or should we pull it...

Answers:
You could have contaminated seeds, soil etc. It could be a fungus that is in the soil. The fungus enters the plant through the roots and spreads up into the stems and leaves. There is no chemical available to destroy the fungus. It is best to destroy infected plants. The fungus can be removed from the soil by fumigation or solarization techniques.
The best solution is to use plants that are resistant to the fungus fusarium.

I don't know why, but the bottom leaves on my sunflowers did the same thing. They still grew up nice and tall, with leaves higher up on the stalk, and I have nice big flowers.
