I'm buying a house on a steeply sloping block and would be very grateful for ideas as to what I can do with it

Question:The plot has been levelled out at the back to make a small yard which is fenced off, then there is a steep drop down the hill. Some people around are constructing terrace gardens, but I have a young child and a puppy and would rather they could use it somehow. It's currently covered in nothing but long grass and weeds - does anyone have any thoughts on how it could be used and what sort of work would be necessary to make it useable? Thanks so much in advance for any help!

Answers:
Personally I like the terraced garden idea. You could incorporate that into a garden area that could also be enjoyed by your child. Take advantage of the slope and put in a slide from one level to the next. A rope attached up higher that they can use to "climb" up part of the slope to get back to the slide.
Also, a water feature would be nice where on some of the terraces it could pool a little and continue on to the next level. Recycling the water from a strong pump at the base.
If your concerned about the pooling of water you can have a "pooless" system so that the water disappears into rocks but keeps journeying down the slope in switchbacks. You could also put in a pulley system where you can attach baskets and send tools down to different levels, or maybe lunch? After harvesting veggies etc. you can use the pulley to bring them back to the top of your slope.
